I am Madeleine Wells from London in the UK. I hold a bachelors degree and a Masters degree both from prominent universities in the UK. My majors were Political Economy and Law. I am also a certified TEFL instructor and have been teaching in China since 2004. I began working at Tsinghua in 2007 where I currently teach across a wide range of Social Science disciplines, in subjects aimed at preparing students for both graduate and postgraduate studies abroad. The courses are delivered through in-class work, seminar presentations, tests, quizzes, homework, and examinations.
To those who wish to study abroad I say, pay attention to what teachers in these preparation classes are saying. All of us have a wealth of experience and have gone through similar experiences in our tertiary education courses. Students also need to know that western universities offer ample opportunities for them to pursue extra curricular activities; all aimed at making them more rounded individuals who can easily integrate into society once their stint in academia ends. It is therefore in students’ interest to take advantage of, and make the most of, those opportunities.
